Using the XSuSe SiS Server Instead of the XF86_SVGA server:
1) Visit --Save this webpage on
your computer for future reference.
2) Download the XFCom_SiS RPM (about 1Meg file)
3) As root, perform the remaining steps
4) Install the RPM file (use --nodeps).
5) Feel free to read /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.XFCom_SiS
6) Rename the XF86_SVGA server by typing: mv /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA
7) type: ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XFCom.SiS /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA.
8) type: cp /etc/XF86Config /etc/XF86Config.orig (saving our original
9) Comment out the following (YMMV!):
#Option "no_accel"
#Option "no_linear"
#Option "sw_cursor"
10) If desired, you may add the line in the Screen Section
"DefaultColorDepth 16" (you have to comment out "no_accel", however.
# The Colour SVGA server
Section "Screen"
    Driver "svga"
    # Use Device "Generic VGA" for Standard VGA 320x200x256
    #Device "Generic VGA"
    Device "SiS"
    Monitor "My 15in monitor"
    # I've only tried the next line with the SuSe SiS Server
    DefaultColorDepth 16
11) Save the /etc/XF86Config File.
