TESTED ON COL 2.2 REDHAT 5.2 and RH6.0 Linux Kernels 2.2.x

Encryption is (or was) subject to an export embargo from the United States. The library is NOT part of a normal distribution and must be obtained separately.

To compile programs which require it, ie ssh, or any passwords, you are required to obtain a source from outside the USA.

There are a few other goodies there too. 

2) the library should end up in /lib

At link time, you need to specifiy -lcrypt on your gcc command line to incorporate this library.
